This is the tool used back then and today.

Just don’t use a screwdriver and a hammer!

Some throats have a locking pin inserted to block the brass insert. These are near impossible to remove without drilling out. This is not a consistent method used by western electric so check before if ever you need to remove the brass insert.

Why remove the brass insert? Well some are damaged having been cross threaded, seen them soldered to another standard (guess they didn’t have the tool…). So if you score an original throat that has an issue drop me am email.
